On the flight from Stansted to Santiago de Compostela it was recommended to me to go to Pampin Bar for a dining experience. Our first effort brought us to Pampin -a shoe shop! Fortunately only 5 minutes away was the bar we sought. On first sight it would not be a place that would draw one in. Hidden off the main street it lies effectively beneath the houses. We pushed the door in and were rewarded with a warm welcome. The staff were busy preparing for dinner. We made a reservation for the following day as it was fully booked - be warned!!! We arrived for first sitting at 13.30 -it was Sunday and there is no evening sitting on Sundays. The space is small but well structured. The anchovie starter was full of flavour but needed a partner- ie another. The sardine Empanada was lovely - we saw it being prepared the day before. It was small and would not suffice as a main meal I think. The fish was -to share - and was presented with style. The potatoes here were a little over oily for our Irish taste. I had the chicken stew - which was I believe “duck”. ... something lost in translation here maybe! The sauce was beautiful - ni vegetables but chips. The desserts were beautiful also - between the three of us we had three different deserts - cheesecake, tart tatin and almond coulant ( homemade as we waited). The total cost including a glass of wine and a coffee was €94. A tidy sum for dining out in Santiago but such quality cuisine is worth the investment. I would recommend Pampin to you without reservation.
