Fontaine Café and Creperie
Also known as Fontaine Bistro, this is the place to eat in Alexandria, Virginia. If you can only eat in one place while you’re here, go to Fontaine. They’re famous for their crepes, with very good reason. They have savory crepes of all varieties but wait until you see their sweet crepes menu. We had the Black Forest and Grand Chocolate. OMG! They taste as good as they sound. Better even. And the bistro is charming. It’s in Old Town Alexandria for starters, a lovely walking area. The service is gracious, but not pretentious. Our server, Jeramiah, couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. As we were visiting Virginia, and as he was born and raised there, he gave us several insider ideas of places to see and things to do.
We visited during the coronavirus pandemic, so Fontaine is open, but with limited seating. They only seat customers at scattered tables that are distant from each other. When we got there, they had no more scattered seating in the café, so they opened their next door dining room just for us. Now that’s superior customer service.
Parking is on the street, but the meters are free on Sunday and there are parking lots and garages around. Be sure to check Fontaine’s hours for when they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Then do yourself a favor and visit Fontaine.
