Sobre BRABO Restaurant

My wife and I have eaten at Brabos for over ten years now and we often stay at the Hotel Lorien (to which it is associated with). It was previously a Belgian themed restaurant and switched to a new executive chef (and French Cuisine) in the last few years. Simply put, the food at Brabos is good but not exceptional and it is not for any Francophile or someone interested in exploring French Cuisine. There are some subtle French influences present in some of the dishes but you're not going to have mixed drinks, an extensive French wine/champagne list or numerous French dishes to choose from. We were in Old Town on business 12 February 2020 and had a party of four at Brabos for a late dinner. We had no reservations and were still able to get seated on a Tuesday night. In short, our meal was $520 with tip/taxes. I ordered our table two appetizers, three entrees, four pre-dinner cocktails, a bottle of champagne and four after dinner drinks. You can get much more elsewhere in Old Town for this price and I would recommend going to another restaurant (Brabos, less formal sister restaurant the Brabos Tasting Room is a good option). Our appetizers were the full cheese plate ($35) and grilled Spanish octopus ($23). I would recommend the cheese plate but found the grilled Spanish octopus very much not grilled and lacking (I would not get it again). Our table ordered the baked Lobster and Purple Potato Gnocchi (at the suggestion of our waiter who said they run out every night) ($34), Pan seared Sea Bass ($30) and U-10 Day Boat Scallops ($36). Our guests enjoyed the Sea Bass and Scallops (they consumed their entire plates) and my wife and I split the Gnocchi. We found the Gnocchi under seasoned, mushy and thrown together. I would absolutely not recommend anyone get this dish. Our drinks were all good and as a plus the bartender himself delivered them and followed up by asking our table if we liked them. I ordered a bottle of French champagne ($45) for our table which did not disappoint. This dinner was decent but for a party of four. However, for a $520 price tag I would recommend people go elsewhere to find better quality food with a much better price (Old Town Alexandria has no shortage of great sit down restaurants). If you're at the Hotel Lorien and need a place to eat on the premises I would recommend the Brabo Tasting Room over Brabo's Brasserie (If you go to the Tasting Room try the mussels, you will not be disappointed).
