Another suggestion for a very pleasant afternoon in the midst of nature is to stroll through the Botanical Garden. If you still don't know this attraction in the city, you can put it on the list of things to do because it's really worth it!
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is the oldest in Brazil, with more than 200 years of history. The year of its foundation coincides with the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family in Brazil. Dom João VI, at the time still Prince Regent, wanted to make those lands a place to try to adapt seeds and seedlings of oriental spices to our climate, with an eye on their great commercial value.
There are 540,000 square meters of cultivated area open to visitors, and more than 3,400 different plant species from all over the world. The most famous is the imperial palm tree, symbol of the Botanical Garden, which can reach the height of a 15-story building.
Don't forget to take a look at the Visitors' Center, a 1576 house that was used as a sugar mill and today has a small exhibition on the history of the Botanical Garden, with an interactive room. Afterwards, the advice is to wander aimlessly, enjoy the peace and nature. Walking through the park is discovering waterfalls, lakes, bridges, nests, animals climbing the trunks, trees with a fun name...
