Sobre Santa Teresa Neighborhood

It's one of the coolest tours in Rio de Janeiro, for sure! The neighborhood is pure charm, first because it is full of historic mansions dating back to 1750, cobblestone streets, architecture inspired by France, cute cable cars circulating (and which have been a reality in the neighborhood since 1877). In addition, it is a center for bohemia, bars, samba, houses super cool studios and culture centers and has a beautiful view of the city, as it is a neighborhood located at the top! There are a lot of cool places that you can visit here, in addition to simply walking through its charming streets!

- Going by Cable Car: for about R$20 you can go around the neighborhood for a tour full of charm between Estação Carioca and Estação Dois Irmãos. Check prices and routes: http://www.bondesdesantateresa.rj.gov.br/

- Parque das Ruínas Cultural Center: in the former mansion of Laurinda Santos Lobo, a promoter and funder of Carioca art who welcomed many renowned artists such as Tarsila do Amaral and Villa Lobos into her home, today there is a renovated cultural center that has beautiful gardens, walls of exposed brick, exhibition galleries, terraces with panoramic views and much more. Free entrance. Book through the website: www.sympla.com.br/parquedasruinasoficial (Thurs-Sun from 9 am to 4 pm).

- Chácara do Céu Museum: old mansion from 1876, demolished and rebuilt in 1934, which was owned by Raymundo Castro Maya, a well-known patron. He himself founded the museum on the property, with an exhibition of Brazilian, European and Asian art, including rare furniture and two original rooms in the house with the same ambience: the library and the dining room. The beautiful garden is also very pleasant! Entrance fee: R$6. Closes only Tuesday. 12pm-5pm. There, enjoy and see Largo do Curvelo and its charming cable car station.

- Mirante Dona Marta: one of the most beautiful views of Rio, free of charge! You'll see the entire Botafogo cove, the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background, Guanabara Bay, Christ the Redeemer... There you can go on a tour of Corcovado, a classic carioca tour that can be accessed by car, on foot. or by train (see prices).

- Largo das Neves: one of the most ancient places in the neighborhood, with houses over 150 years old, where residents meet to chat!

- Rua Áurea: The liveliest place in the neighborhood, good for drinking a beer in every bar in the region, chatting with the crowd that gathers there.

COVID Report: the Chácara do Céu Museum is still closed. The others, until the latest information, are working, but we recommend consulting the residents and attractions before going.
